House Arrest, But Make It Fun

Let's just address it, shall we? Coronavirus is happening.

With the current state of things, getting out of the house is quickly becoming less possible. It is a scary time for the whole world, but that doesn’t mean staying home has to be scary as well.

There's plenty we can do to occupy ourselves in our own humble abodes. Here are some things we'll be doing, and recommend you do too:

1. Do your spring cleaning a little earlier this year.

This could be your bedroom, the pantry, your makeup, your wardrobe, or (if you're feeling particularly motivated...) your bathrooms cabinets! Think of how relieved you'll feel when it's over.

2. Revamp your playlists.

You're probably listening to a lot of music right now... why not find some new, motivating tunes that you can blast while doing that spring cleaning?

3. Create your very own drinking game.

And test it out, too.

4. Play nostalgic games that bring out your inner child.

Dust off your Wii, Xbox or Nintendo DS, and if you're feeling really nostalgic play Papa's Freezeria, Jetpack Joyride or the Sims... they still exist!

5. Put some effort into your meals.

Two-minute noodles are boring! Open one of those abandoned cookbooks, crack a wine, blast your new playlist and whip up a storm for the family! Dine like the royalty you are.

6. Have a picnic in your backyard.

Getting some rays is bound to improve your mood and reduce cabin fever. Get your butt off the couch and invite your siblings if you're feeling generous!

7. Immerse yourself in a podcast.

Contrary to popular belief, podcasts aren't all about self-improvement or the news. Listen to true crime, air-crash investigations, sport stars or even your favourite YouTubers. Listen while you're cleaning out those bathroom cabinets.

8. Get creative!

You've probably heard this one before, but it's important. Do that project you've always wanted to do, whip out that colouring-in book or re-arrange your entire room... get out of your comfort zone!

9. Read. A. Book.

Pick up that book you've always said you'll read and read it. Actually open it and commit. Lie in the sunshine or snuggle up on the couch and distance yourself from the media.

10. Watch movies.

This is a no-brainer, but you can make it fun. Write all those movies you 'need' to watch on scraps of paper, fold them up and put them in a bowl. You have to watch whichever movie you pick out – this is a guaranteed time saver.

As difficult as it can be, keep yourself accountable, create a routine, avoid pointless phone scrolling and continue moving your body however you enjoy. Staying at home isn't the end of the world, and it can make a world of difference.

Here are some of the latest covid-19 updates, as of 27.03.20:

Stay safe and healthy, Chinwaggers.
